Economic development, unfortunately, is a double-edged sword. It helps improve the life style of people but at the same time adversely impacts the planet. Balanced development and not greed is needed to sustain the planet.
Take an example - roads. Road are a undoubtedly a wonderful invention to improve transportation but trees have to be felled to construct roads.
This reminds of the famous saying by Gandhi, "there's enough on this planet for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed".
